FIELD
TRIP
- Make contacts with land owners.
- Arrange for regular field trips.
- Provide release, hold harmless, papers when
necessary.
- Provide directions (and maps, when possible) on how
to get to sites.
- Provide directions and reservation information for
campsites on overnight trips.
- Provide pertinent hand-outs.
- Document appropriate findings.
- Write follow up article for newsletter.
HISTORIAN
- Maintain file of all society publications
(newsletter, newspaper, important correspondence, etc.)
- Maintain historical books with:
- Pictures from society activities.
- Other scrap-book material.
- Make books available to members at the General
meetings.
HOSPITALITY
- Arrange for snacks and beverages at monthly General
meetings.
- Coordinate food and beverages for Charles Finsley
lectures, picnics and other Society functions.
MEMBERSHIP
- Collect membership dues and forms and maintain
database.
- Forward membership dues to the Treasurer.
- Provide mailing labels for newsletter and other
mailings.
- Produce the Membership Directory in March. Ensure
printing and delivery to members.
- Pick up sign-in sheet after meetings and send one
free newsletter to visitors.
- Make name tags available at monthly meetings.
- Outgoing membership chair should plan to assist the
new chair until the membership directory is published.
PROGRAMS
- Arrange for monthly speakers.
- Make overnight stay arrangements for out of town
speakers.
- Provide program title to Editor.
- Provide calendar to Museum of Science and Nature
(MNS) newsletter editor.
- Make hotel and airline reservations when needed.
- Make arrangements for airport pickup, local
transportation and return to airport.
- Ensure speaker is paid appropriate honorarium.
- Provide program title and write-up to editor and
person maintaining the Paleo Hotline.
- Introduce speaker at monthly meeting.
PROMOTIONS
- Make DPS merchandise, T-shirts, mugs, hats, bumper
stickers, etc., available for purchase at general meetings, and special
events like Fossilmania, DG&MS and AG&MS.
- Set up table at general meetings and provide both
promotional and membership materials.
PUBLICATIONS
- Solicit and edit articles and other material for
the Occasional Papers, monographs and other publications.
- Heads committee that edits, and proofreads articles.
- Coordinate with printer to produce final copies.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Frank Crane Scholarship
is a $500 award which can be split two ways.
- Send scholarships to local universities by October
1.
- Assemble committee to select winner.
- Arrange for winner and Crane family to attend
General Meeting.
- Present award (at December general meeting).
