  • 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Brookhaven College, Dallas

Shark Week

The DPS will meet on Wednesday, July 10th, at 7PM Central time, in the Boonesville Auditorium (Room 125) of the Ellison Miles Building (Bldg H) at Brookhaven Campus of Dallas College (3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch).  Roger Farish, long time member, ex-president, and field trip leader, and the co-author with Bruce Welton of “The Collector’s Guide to Fossil Sharks and Rays from the Cretaceous of Texas” will speak on “Sharks of North Texas”.  Diane Tran will give a short presentation on dinosaur teeth, geared for kids

North Texas has an abundance of shark teeth, and we are often asked for help identifying them.  Shark teeth in a single species vary in size and shape from the front to the side, top to bottom, and over the life of the shark.  Roger will show teeth of the common species, and what the animals may have looked like when alive.  This talk will be an ideal preparation for the upcoming field trip to the creeks of Sherman (discussed elsewhere in this newsletter).  For a special treat we will have some special collections of shark teeth on display at the meeting.  We will also have stretch plastic frames, ideal for showing shark teeth, as well as the last remaining stock of his shark book on sale at the meeting.

DPS meetings are free and open to the public.  Invite your friends, family, and anyone interested in fossils.  Members can bring food, snacks, and sweets to share, while DPS will provide water and sodas.  Everyone is welcome to bring fossils, especially their collections of shark teeth, to show or to request identification.  This is one of the best aspects of meeting face-to-face, but you can also
