Geology, that’s some proper mad stuff.

A presentation by Philip Scoggins, P.G. on the basics of geology and the formative people who’s understanding developed into the science of geology today. A little bit of this talk could be subtitled, “How I spent my summer vacation.”
Philip Scoggins spent most of his life in Texas. From about age 8, he grew up in western Tarrant County finding fossils like Eopachydiscus. When he learned ammonites were one of the marine animals that lived in the an inland sea called the Western Interior Seaway, he wanted to know more about geology and paleontology. Philip graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BS in Geology. He worked in various geology related industries. Being a long-term undergrad, he worked as a geologic technician in the petroleum exploration field. Later, he worked in the geotechnical, and environmental assessment professions. He probably missed out on being a Charter Member because he was laid-off the day Edwin Colbert spoke. A few years later, a plesiosaur was found on the property of a relative of his now late wife Penny. The DPS was helping Baylor University with the dig. He has been a member of the DPS as soon as possible in the mid-1980s. Penny and I had separate single memberships for many years because we wanted the dues to help the DPS grow. It has and that is some proper mad stuff too.
DPS
The DPS is a group of professional and amateur paleontologists that want to exchange information, interact, and continue their education in paleontology. We meet once a month on the second Wednesday evening of the month at Brookhaven College, Building H.
